Beautiful coastline, the sound of seals barking on the offshore rocks and a trail full of cartoonish cactus leading to some hefty coastal redwoods. Good hike.

It turns out my brother has an unquenchable appetite for smoked turkey bagels. Also, if you make him drink until 3am whilst jet-lagged, he’ll fall asleep on a dime. Big love to you brother, it was a blast.

SF Christmas

Our first Californian Christmas, spent exploring unexplored corners of SF with the mother-in-law, Bridge. Being charged at by a bull elephant seal at Ana Nuevo and drinking white russians at the Huntington with Danny DeVito’s double being particular highlights.

When the Pilgrims met the Wampanoag Native Americans on Plymouth Rock, they gave gifts of turkeys and Pantone™ books – thankfully this tradition has continued. Many thanks to Chris and Jenna for being the kind hosts, great eats and fun games – I think I’m just about recovered from that second helping…

A few days up North to the pine-scented, rugged coastline surrounding Mendocino. Vast empty beaches strewn with driftwood and a real sense of California giving way to the Pacific northwest.

Hiking near Fairfax includes vultures, coyotes, deer and rattle snakes. Walking in the Vale of Glamorgan was never this dangerous.

We picked up four Windsor chairs on Craigslist for $60 and spent an eternity stripping, sanding and painting the buggers ’til they came up good. Kudos to Rosie for her steely determination with the sanding block.

Lands End

Everyone needs a happy place. We found one at Lands End, watching the cargo ships sail under the Golden Gate, playing on the stone circle and getting lost in the hobbit holes. Hard to believe it’s part of the city.

Smith Farm Pumpkin Fest
