The Pelican at Muir Beach does a damn good impression of a British country pub; fish & chips, London Pride and a dartboard. If they could install some sticky carpets and a quiz machine I’d move in.

St Patrick was a Welshman. That aside, the locals like to celebrate the day in a big way. We headed to the Plough & Stars for traditional music, pints of Guinness, and portraits of Gavin Henson. Sláinte!

Japantown Displays

The lacquered hyper-real resin foods in the red and black displays of the restaurants in Japantown. The Mifune logo is a beast.

Mount Hermon Zip-lining.

Tarzan never wore this much safety gear, but then he fell out of a tree and crushed his monkey. Zip-lining through the redwoods at Mount Hermon is a fine way to get the blood pumping on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Cheese vs Beer

As part of the SF beer week, we headed to the American Grilled Cheese Kitchen in SoMa for an evening of artisanal grilled cheeses and accompanying Firestone beers. We made sure the brewmaster knew all about Otley beers before we left (you can take the boy out of Ponty…).

Nightlife

Nightlife at the Academy of Science means an evening of albino alligators, live music, planetariums, drinks and aquariums. Lovely to have the folks back in town too!

Garrapata State Park

Beautiful coastline, the sound of seals barking on the offshore rocks and a trail full of cartoonish cactus leading to some hefty coastal redwoods. Good hike.

It turns out my brother has an unquenchable appetite for smoked turkey bagels. Also, if you make him drink until 3am whilst jet-lagged, he’ll fall asleep on a dime. Big love to you brother, it was a blast.
